Advancing Pet Nutrition Through Education, Advisory, and Expertise

Wisetroop is a Singapore-based pet nutrition practice dedicated to advancing the understanding and application of nutrition in the management of chronic disease in dogs and cats.

Founded by Katherine Khoo, a certified pet and human nutritionist with over 12 years of clinical experience, Wisetroop was established to address a gap that too many pet owners encounter after a chronic diagnosis: the absence of clear, structured, and evidence-informed nutritional guidance to support their pet's long-term care.

Wisetroop exists to bridge that gap.

The Problem We Set Out to Solve

Too many pet owners receive a chronic diagnosis with little more than a prescription diet and limited guidance on what to feed their pet and why. Wisetroop was founded to fill that gap.

While our work is predominantly focused on dogs and cats managing chronic conditions, we welcome pets at every stage, including those seeking better everyday nutrition for a healthy pet.

A Comprehensive Approach to Pet Nutrition

Wisetroop's services are built around three core pillars:

Education

Structured nutrition education programmes, including onsite workshops, virtual webinars, and weekly articles designed to build meaningful nutritional understanding for pet owners at every stage of their journey.

Our educational programmes cover both everyday canine and feline nutrition and condition-specific dietary management for chronic disease.

Consultation

Professional one-to-one pet nutrition consultations for pet owners seeking expert, evidence-informed guidance on their pet's diet, supplementation, and feeding approach.

Every consultation follows a structured four-stage process - Nutrition Assessment, Nutrition Concerns, Nutrition Intervention, and Nutrition Monitoring and Evaluation -grounded in whole-food nutrition principles and tailored to the individual pet's health status, condition, and lifestyle.

Formulation

Recipe formulation for pet owners, veterinary referral cases and fresh pet food manufacturers. All formulations are developed exclusively for fresh pet food - gently cooked and raw - and are nutritionally balanced in accordance with AAFCO and/or FEDIAF standards.

Commercial formulation consultancy services are also available, covering ingredient strategy, product research and concept development, and health claims substantiation.

Whole-Animal Evidence-Informed Practically Applied

At Wisetroop, good nutrition is understood as one of the core pillars of a pet's health and wellbeing, but never in isolation.

Every case is approached by looking at the whole animal, not just the diagnosis. That means considering the pet's complete health history, living environment, physical activity levels, current medications and complementary therapies, and the practical realities of the owner's lifestyle and preferences. Where additional specialist support is indicated - such as physiotherapy for an osteoarthritic dog - Wisetroop will always recommend the appropriate professional alongside our nutritional work.

Our formulation philosophy is grounded in whole-food nutrition. Supplements and nutraceuticals are incorporated only where there is a clear clinical rationale, and every ingredient and nutrient profile is selected with function in mind, not just adequacy. Nutrient ratios are carefully balanced to support specific health outcomes, including the formulation of anti-inflammatory dietary profiles where clinically indicated.

Who We Serve

Pet Owners

Navigating a chronic diagnosis or simply seeking to feed their dog or cat better, pet owners are at the heart of everything Wisetroop does.

Our education programmes, consultation services, and recipe formulations are designed to be accessible, practical, and genuinely useful for those making daily feeding decisions at home.

Veterinary Professionals

Wisetroop accepts referrals from veterinary professionals for canine and feline patients requiring therapeutic dietary intervention as part of an ongoing chronic disease management plan.

We operate as an independent specialist within the veterinary care team, with the objective of supporting the clinical goals established by the referring veterinarian.

Pet Food Manufacturers

Fresh pet food manufacturers and industry professionals working on life stage and condition-specific product development can access Wisetroop's specialist formulation expertise — from ingredient strategy and nutritional balancing to product concept development and health claims substantiation.

Evidence-Informed

Every service Wisetroop delivers is underpinned by a commitment to evidence-informed practice, drawing on established nutritional science, peer-reviewed research, and recognised regulatory standards including AAFCO, FEDIAF, and NRC.

Wisetroop's founder, Katherine Khoo, holds a Certificate in Small Animal Natural Nutrition from the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies (CIVT), Australia, and brings over 12 years of clinical experience in human nutritional therapy, including specialist training in Integrated Cancer Care and Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine.

Her dual qualification in both pet and human nutrition informs a uniquely comprehensive perspective on the relationship between diet, chronic disease, and long-term health outcomes.

Where Wisetroop Began

Wisetroop's origins are personal.

Founder Katherine Khoo's journey into therapeutic pet nutrition began with her own dogs - Wendy, who managed severe osteoarthritis in her later years, and Nicol, who was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Faced with limited options and pets who refused veterinary prescription kibbles, Katherine applied her clinical nutrition expertise to develop condition-specific fresh food diets for both dogs.

That experience - of navigating a chronic diagnosis, searching for credible nutritional guidance, and ultimately finding a better way - is the foundation upon which Wisetroop was built. It is also the reason that every service Wisetroop offers is designed with the pet owner's real-world experience firmly in mind.

Today, Katherine shares her home with Cider, a seven-year-old domestic shorthair cat, a reminder that the love of animals, and the commitment to their health and wellbeing, remains at the heart of everything Wisetroop does.
